Orange Historical Society

 Our society have been awarded a grant from "Awards for All" to hold a series of exhibitions entitled "Jewels and Badges of the Loyal Orders in Ireland"

These exhibitions will be held in six different locations in Northern Ireland, hopefully one in each of the counties. When we have finalised the dates and venues we will post them on this website.

Badges and jewels have long been a way of commemorating an event or honouring one or more of the members of the organisation. 

Many Lodges, perceptories, clubs, chapters etc. have commissioned badges or jewels for one reason or another, some in very small numbers, some in large numbers. We know of one lodge that produced only twenty five jewels for their founder members and one Royal Arch Purple Chapter that sold over 7,000 copies of one badge in aid of charitable causes.

 At present we are trying to compile a complete list of all the items that have been produced, whether in small or large numbers. The end product of this will be a book on the subject. If you have any information which you think may of be use to our society please contact us.

The information we would like is,

• The name and number of lodge, perceptory, chapter, club that produced the item.

• The number of items made.

• The reason for issue.

• The year of issue.

• A description of the badge or jewel or If possible a photograph of the badge or jewel.

• Any special features, i.e. if they are numbered or only issued to members.
